Audi Financial Services, administered by Volkswagen Financial Services UK Ltd (VWFS), has underwritten thousands of PCP agreements for new and Approved Used Audi cars. These agreements, often signed at dealerships, promised flexibility and fixed payments, but some included undisclosed dealer commissions or lacked proper affordability checks.
In 2024, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) confirmed that historic commission practices across multiple lenders, including VWFS, are under review. Although Audi has not announced a formal redress scheme, its finance arm has acknowledged the investigation.
How to Identify Mis-Sold PCP Agreements from Audi Financial Services
Audi Financial Services, administered by Volkswagen Financial Services UK Ltd (VWFS), has underwritten thousands of PCP agreements for new and Approved Used Audi cars. Many were sold in dealerships and promised flexibility and fixed payments. But concerns have since emerged that some agreements involved undisclosed dealer commissions or weak affordability checks.
In August 2025, the Supreme Court confirmed that most car-finance complaints will now be judged under Section 140A of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (the “unfair relationship” test). In parallel, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is preparing an industry-wide redress scheme, with consultation scheduled for October 2025 and compensation expected from 2026.
If you entered into an Audi PCP agreement before 28 January 2021 (the date discretionary commissions were banned), you may be affected. This guide explains common warning signs, what records to look for, and how to progress a potential complaint.
Quick Self-Check: Could Your Agreement Be Affected?
If you’re unsure, don’t worry — a “No” doesn’t prove mis-selling, but it may highlight areas worth investigating.
| Question | Yes | No |
| Did the dealer provide the pre-contract information before you signed? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Was proof of income recorded (e.g. payslips or bank statements)? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Were the balloon payment and mileage limits clearly explained? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Was the dealer’s commission clearly disclosed to you? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Was your APR higher than Audi finance offers advertised at the time? | ☐ | ☐ |
Audi-Specific Warning Signs
Complaints about Audi Financial Services often show the same recurring patterns:
| Theme | How It Shows Up | Why It Matters |
| Undisclosed discretionary commission | APR in the signed agreement is higher than first quoted; commission wording is vague (“the retailer may receive remuneration”). | Can indicate a discretionary commission arrangement (DCA), which was banned in 2021. |
| Weak affordability checks | SAR file shows rounded or estimated income figures, but no supporting documents. | May suggest the lender did not properly assess whether repayments were affordable. |
| Inflated balloon (GMFV) | The final payment is set high compared with trade-in guides, making monthly instalments appear lower. | Combined with high APR, this can support an “unfair relationship” complaint. |
Any single issue may be enough to raise a complaint. A combination makes the case stronger.
What to Gather for Your Complaint
You don’t need legal training, and you don’t need every document. Lenders should have your records, but collecting what you can helps.
| Document | Why It Matters | Red Flag |
| Signed agreement & pre-contract information | Confirms APR, balloon, and commission wording. | Commission reference vague or absent. |
| Dealer quotation or order form | Shows original APR before signing. | Example: 6.9% quote becomes 9.9% in the contract. |
| Credit application form | Records income/outgoings. | Rounded income or blanks, no payslips. |
| Add-on product invoices | Reveals extras like GAP insurance. | Hidden costs added to finance. |
| Settlement letter | Shows total interest repaid. | Higher-than-expected interest costs. |

“We often see Audi finance agreements from before 2021 with vague commission wording and high APRs. If affordability checks were also weak, that can provide a strong basis for a complaint.”

What Compensation Might Look Like
At the moment, there isn’t a confirmed formula for calculating PCP or HP claims. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is still finalising its redress scheme, and the exact method, whether based on interest overpayments, commission refunds, or another approach, has not yet been announced.
What we do know is:
• The FCA has said around 95% of agreements included commission, and up to 40% had discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs), so millions of customers may be affected.
• The regulator is reviewing how refunds should be worked out, and more detail is expected once its consultation concludes in late 2025.
• Until then, any figures in the media are only estimates.
As soon as the FCA confirms how compensation will be calculated, we’ll update this page with clear examples so you can see what a refund might look like.

Rapid Self‑Check: Are You at Risk?
Before diving into your paperwork, run through the quick checklist below. If you’re unsure of an answer, mark “No”, that could still indicate an issue.
| Question | Yes | No |
| Did the dealer provide the pre contract information before you signed the agreement? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Was proof of income recorded (payslips or bank statements)? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Were the balloon payment and mileage limits explained in writing? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Was the dealer’s commission clearly disclosed to you? | ☐ | ☐ |
| Was your APR higher than the Audi finance offers advertised at the time? | ☐ | ☐ |
If you tick “No” two or more times, the following sections are especially relevant.
Audi-Specific Warning Signs
Mis-selling patterns tend to follow a few recurring themes. In complaints relating to Audi Financial Services, three common issues appear again and again:
| Theme | How It Shows Up | Why It Strengthens a Claim |
| Undisclosed discretionary commission | The APR in your signed agreement exceeds the original quote, and any mention of commission is vague (e.g., “the retailer may receive remuneration”). | This may breach CONC 4.5 on commission transparency. |
| Weak affordability checks | Your Subject Access Request (SAR) file shows rounded income or estimated figures, but no payslips or bank statements. | This may breach CONC 5, which requires lenders to verify affordability. |
| Inflated balloon (GMFV) | The Guaranteed Minimum Future Value is set far above trade-value guides, artificially lowering monthly payments. | If combined with a high APR, this can support a claim under Section 140A of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. |
Any one of these issues can justify a complaint. A combination strengthens your case further.
Evidence Pack: What to Gather and Why
You don’t need legal training to build a credible claim, but having the right documents makes all the difference. Here’s what to look for:
| Document | Why It Matters | Red Flag to Watch For |
| Signed agreement & pre agreement information | Confirms the APR, balloon payment, and commission wording. | Vague or missing reference to commission. |
| Dealer quotation or order form | Shows the original APR offer before signing. | E.g., a 6.9% quote becomes a 9.9% contract. |
| Credit application form | Lists your stated income and essential outgoings. | Rounded income or blank sections with no supporting documents. |
| Add-on product invoices | Reveals bundled products like GAP insurance or service plans. | Hidden extras rolled into the finance deal. |
| Settlement letter from VWFS | Shows total interest repaid over the term. | High interest costs suggest APR inflation. |
Gathering these records now will make your complaint more robust and less likely to be dismissed.
From Evidence to Complaint: A Step‑by‑Step Process
The rights outlined above become powerful when used methodically. Follow these four steps to create an evidence bundle that Audi Financial Services or the Financial Ombudsman will find hard to dispute.
1. Request Your File

3. Submit a Complaint to Audi Financial Services
Clearly outline what you believe went wrong. Quote:

- The relevant FCA CONC rules breached (e.g., CONC 4.5 or CONC 5)
Audi Financial Services must respond within eight weeks.
4. Escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)
